THOUGHTS

The 'Happy' refers to the discoveries that I make during painting: The way the light falls, how the colours burst out in harmony, how a landscape can open up to you in such stillness that the knowing of it gives you a sort of inner peace and contentment.

The 'Happy' refers to you in as far as I have succeeded to inspire you in the same way that I was when I set to painting a particular picture in the first place.

Ideally it should be as happy for you as it is for me the artist, but of course it may not always work this way. Ultimately the function of art is to make one more aware, therefore a reaction to a work of art, even if it is negative could trigger off a realisation that might not have occurred without it.
